"Graham and I lived in Darwin and we are used to cyclones so probably we are not as concerned as others may be." Wow!
I saw the results of Cyclone Tracy first hand. Scores of concrete (yes concrete) house shattered to pieces, a piece of 4x2 inch (50 x 100mm) timber driven through a palm tree, many cars sandblasted bare, a reinforced concrete blockwork wall blown down on to a parked car (mine!) and an elevated water tank dented by a flying fridge, lethally airborne roofing sheets.
Not concerned? I b***dy well was. We skidaddled to Brisbane complete with two dogs (one too blind and heavy to lift onto the house roof in the event of flooding!) plus all CDs and DVDs with all our photos and films on them. "Better safe than sorry" is my motto!

I live in Dundowran Beach and yes these areas and others are lowlying and could be impacted from a tidal storm surge. Areas are shown on the Council map. But if the cyclone comes close yes we could be impacted.
My approach is to be concerned but not worried. If it comes it comes and we will do what we have to do but Graham and I lived in Darwin and we are used to cyclones so probably we are not as concerned as others may be.
I have cats and a dog which I worry about as if we have to leave home I want to take them also. If we have to leave we will have to leave and advice of when to do this will be forthcoming with directions etc.
At this time it looks like we should be lucky with Hamish tracking safely away from us but this could change. Fingers crossed we get rain but no winds or surges etc.
I'm just keeping an eye on the BOM site and listening to the media but we did clean out all the gutters yesterday and have moved chairs etc from outside to inside the shed. We also bought batteries for our radio and charged up the torches. Otherwise life as normal for now. Sue
