Fraserwatch you raise good points. I have no excuse for the fact that FCRC did not make a submission in relation to the Dingo Management Strategy. To initiate the submitting of a response would require the issue being raised by a Councillor individually or on behalf of a resident. A resident doesn't have to ask Council to make a submission but it helps Council to represent the community when we at least have the discussion with them. In relation to the dingo issue there is great diversity of opinion on what is best to do but in relation to Traveston there was not much diversity of opinion at all.
The previous Councils did make submissions against Traveston but by the time amalgamation came and we formed FCRC there has not been an opportunity to formally submit. The media release issued today will assist you with a quick history of what has occurred to date. It is copied into my post today. Take care, Sue

Thank you Sue, but you have not answered the second question - "if not why not?"
I would have thought that having some responsibility for some of Fraser Island, Council should have seen fit to have made a submission re. Dingo management.
Traveston Dam, which you raised, is a completely different matter, and the same question should be asked, - ie. Why has Fraser Coast Regional Council not made a formal "official" submission re the proposed Dam, as it too would have a major effect on the Region.
I would not have thought it should be necessary for a community member to have to ask Council to make submissions on matters of such major community concern.

Glad that readers are taking the time to write and submit to those in power. While previous Councils and the FCRC have officialy submitted on the Traveston Dam proposal no we haven't 'officially' submitted to the Dingo strategy. While I individually submitted I nor none of my fellow Councillors, nor a community member to my recollection, asked Council to submit.
Asking Council to formally submit more often to State and Federal requests for opinion is on my 'to do' list. I have also tried to represent the Council opinion re Fraser Island related issues, including the dingoes, as an observer at the CAC and other meetings that I attend.
So now we should all turn our gaze to the Coastal Planning process. Too much to read.. I need to learn how to speed read it seems!

I agree with your response to Sadman that writing "officially" on subjects is important.
Did Fraser Coast Regional Council "officially" lodge a submission to the recent Dingo Management Strategy?
If not, why not?

I know of many people who have been concerned about the management of Fraser Island for years. Especially in relation to the dingoes. I understand the frustrations but it is unfair to say no one cares. It is just very difficult to progress anything past the current practices strongly defended by DERM Senior Management. Sadman did you write to the Government and pop in a submission re the recent Dingo Management Strategy review? While writing to the paper and on blogs etc is an important aspect of communicating publicly, writing 'officially' is much more important.

Sue,

The really sad thing about the Dingo and Fraser Island is the fact that this has been going on for years.
All of a sudden following the death of a young boy, we all take an interest !!!
This has been a festering sore for the island and it's wildlife and no one has given a shit.
Now our local member (ex councillor for years) and uncle Tom Cobbly and all have decide it's not
right !!!! About ten years too late.

Give me a break people, I hate crocodile tears.

Gidday Sue, great to have met you too, unfortunately no time to chat.
I thought the day was very good, we all hoped more people would turn up.
Great opening with Ted Sorenson and Aunty Marie from Butchulla people.
The song by Robin " Dingoes Dont Bark " was very moving.
And so good to see the Aboriginal Dancers there and the kids telling there special story too.

Hopefully one day I will be allowed to take my dingoes out on Display if DERM/ Biosecurity will allow it.

Hooroo
