Coral bleaching powerpoint presentation.

For those who were unable to attend the coral bleach workshop at Bundaberg, we are have obtained the power point presentation and will be showing it and discussing the relevant points. Venue: Lutheran Church, c/r Urraween Rd and Pantlin’s Lane. Time: 7-9 pm, Thursday, March 26, 2009.

CORAL in the spotlight

Snorkelling with a purpose. The local snorkellers are celebrating a grant of nearly $9thousand to organise monitoring of our local coral. Training is being provided by GBRMPA staff and will be held in Bundaberg on the 11th Feb (this Wednesday evening at the CQU Campus) and we are car pooling. The night should be very educational. If you would like to join us to learn more about our coral and/or help us monitor our coral please let me know. We will then have a follow up day on Feb 21st at Torquay beach. Many hands make light work and snorkelling is relaxing, enjoyable and much fun with so much to see.

The SuperGraze project team cordially invites you to an on-farm pasture field walk in conjunction with the Tiaro Farming & Lifestyle Field Day.

    When: 9:00 am, Saturday 11 July 2009
Where: Tiaro Recreation Grounds, Inman Street, Tiaro
(turn off the highway at the Royal Hotel).

Please gather at the Recreation Grounds front gate before 9am
and we’ll drive to the nearby pasture site
    Why:

A number of graziers attending the SuperGraze Information & Engagement Sessions in February, expressed interest in attending a pasture field-walk to learn how to assess grazing land condition.

On this Tiaro grazing property, we will assess the grazing land condition of a native pasture oversown with legumes. We will also discuss best practice grazing strategies to manage legume populations, such as Wynn cassia.

Following the field-walk we will return to the “Tiaro Farming & Lifestyle Field Day” at the Tiaro Recreation Grounds (see program over the page).

Bring a hat, sunscreen and water.

For more information please call Brad Wedlock MRCCC (5482 4766)
    or Graeme Elphinstone DPI&F (5482 1522)

Please RSVP to Brad Wedlock or Deb Seal at the
Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee on (07) 5482 4766 (ph) or

    Hervey Bay Seedsavers Network

    Hi everyone,

I am putting out the call for at least two seedsaver network members so that we can form a network for Hervey Bay. It will be called Hervey Bay Seedsavers Network and will be used to aid the community garden that is being organised by Maggie Johns as well as being incorporated into the Fraser Coast Sub-tropical Fruit Club. I am happy to be the contact for it and take all enquiries. As all networks have their own posting on the Seedsavers Network website, a lot of enquiries come from people seeking help with tracking particular vege seeds or looking for like minded people in their own area or looking for a group such as ours.

The network has now handed over the reigns to the local networks that are spread all over Australia as it makes more sense for people to think on a local basis rather then try to source a peachy coloured tomato from Tasmania to be grown in nice hot Hervey Bay. Seeds that are acclimatised are much stronger and pest and disease resistant.

They no longer have a subscription fee per year. It’s called a support fee of $30 per year. There is no online or paper newsletter as in the past. This has been replaced with all information being put on the website. The website does take some funding to maintain as well as the starter packs that are handed out to all new networks such as ours hopefully.
